GOC erases Plymouth based student dispensing optician from register
The General Optical Council (GOC), the UK regulator for optometrists and dispensing opticians, has decided to erase Helen Holman, a student dispensing optician based in Plymouth, from its register.
A GOC Fitness to Practise Committee found Ms Holman’s fitness to practise impaired by reason of misconduct. This is in relation to informing her employers she had submitted her pre-qualification portfolio to the Association of British Dispensing Opticians when she had not. Furthermore, she carried out several restricted activities to patients under 16 years of age despite not having the necessary qualifications. The Committee found these actions to be dishonest.
Ms Holman has until 18 November 2024 to appeal against her erasure, during which time she is suspended from the register under an immediate suspension order.
